Free Software Laptops Make New Apple Laptop Look Like A Joke
With all the fanfare about a thin laptop from a nasty and antisocial company that writes insecure software, that isn’t really all that newsworthy given Sony have been selling similar for a while, I was pleased to see that:
- The new Thinkpad X300 as “meatier than the new [nasty one]: it has a 2.0 GHz Intel LV processor, up to 4GB of RAM, 64GB SSD option, WiMax or HSDPA, GPS and a 1440x900 13.3” display, despite being lighter than the [nasty one] with this 2.5lb loadout. It has three (3!) USB ports and gigabit ethernet. On the downside, the … box is much thicker.” (Via Wired)
- The amazing modifications people have done to the eeePC, sometimes costing more than the original laptop (which is £220 from ToysRus in the UK) are getting really good now: One guy has added “GPS (with antenna), Bluetooth, internal card reader, additional internal flash drive, 802.11N, FM transmitter and modem.” to his.
